TPPP Episode 52 : #OneYearPodunkiversary Live Show

It’s that episode y’all has been waiting for : The #OneYearPodunkiversary Live Show! Myself and guest Zach Law from Zachrilege Cast host a two and a half hour extravaganza! We karaoked, took calls, played voicemails, read emails, we laughed, we cried. Well, maybe not the last one, but we did have great time talking to our friends and listeners including Jeremiah and Ari from SJW Circle Jerk, who were in studio with Michael Schaffer, host of Reasonable Risk Podcast and show patron; Amy Kuhel from The Ginger Snaps; friend and one-time guest William Ferguson; listener and badass Jon Livingston, who is most certainly NOT Ishmael Brown; Rob from Secular Yakking; Nathan Dickey from Trolling With Logic; and friend and sometime co-conspirator Jeanne Ikerd. I had a lot of fun doing this, and I am so grateful and humbled by all the support and love I have received over the past year. I also wanted to thank Dot Dot Dash for their music, which has become an integral part of the show. My patrons deserveĀ thanks as well for thinking enough of my humble creation to actually pay for it. And, finally, to all of you have listened and interacted with me over the past year. It has truly been a pleasure and an honor to be your host. Here’s to hoping for plenty of years to come!

TPPP Episode 33 : A Long, Strange Trip

Welcome to another episode of that Southern SJW podcast your mother warned you about, The Podunk Polymath Podcast! This week on the pre-ramble, I talk about the failure of Republicans in the House to come up with the votes to repeal Obamacare, thus effectively rendering that effort dead, and my unmitigated joy at seeing the fuckwits in the GOP losing the battle. I also read a new review I got from guest and friend Zach Law of the Zachrilege Cast. It was a positive and flattering review and thankfully mentioned nothing about IPAs.

On the palaver this week I speak to my friend Erik Pelham about his fascinating, harrowing, and near deadly journey through addiction. Erik tried just about every drug in the book, as well as alcohol, and he tells how he finally decided to go clean after being beaten and in a padded cell. It is an inspirational tale, and Erik is a great storyteller. I think y’all will be hanging on every word as I was.

TPPP Episode 31 : Interviewing The Interviewer

Greetings and welcome to another scintillating episode of The Podunk Polymath Podcast! This is a bit of a special episode, because for only the second time on the podcast I have a guest for the pre-ramble and the palaver! Zach Law of Zachrilege Cast joins me firstly on the pre-ramble as we talk about the GOP’s newly unveiled health care plan and our takes on its merits (spoiler : we think it sucks)! I also announce a new patron, and a very special one at that : The badass host of Inciting Incident Podcast, as well as author and generally awesome human being, Marissa McCool! I also mention once again that NaNoCon is starting in less than a week, and how y’all better get your tickets now before they sell out!

The fun with Zach continues on the palaver, where we talk about his podcast, his personal views, our love of beer, as well as his penchant for belching during interviews. It’s a boozy conversation between two friends, and I had a lot of fun talking to him. It’s a bit of a reprieve from the more serious subjects the show generally covers, and I think we all could use it during these dark days. Enjoy!

TPPP Episode 29 : Let’s Talk About Sex Work

Greetings and welcome to another episode of the podcast your mom warned you about, The Podunk Polymath Podcast! This week on the pre-ramble I give a brief review of ‘I Am Not Your Negro’, the documentary about James Baldwin and his unfinished book. I will let you listen to it on the show, but in brief I will say that I was very moved, saddened, disgusted, angry, and not overly optimistic, though Mr. Baldwin himself said “I can’t be a pessimist, because I’m alive”. Please, if you have the opportunity, go watch this film. It is truly a phenomenal and, I believe, a seminal work.

On  the palaver I speak to Astrid Isley, former co-host on Inciting Incident Podcast, radical activist, deep thinker, and also a sex worker. We talk about what sex work is; myths and misconceptions surrounding the profession; her experiences as a sex worker; her thoughts on regulation; and much more. I often say this, but it truly was an educational and eye-opening conversation.

On the post-ramble I do the usual show promotion, but mention my appearances on The Atheist in the Trailer Park and Zachrilege Cast, since I forgot to last week and almost forgot again! As always, thanks for listening to my incessant rambling, and I hope you enjoy the show.
